Free workshop offers information on playing college sports The RESA and KnowHow2Go are sponsoring College Sports, a free workshop designed to help potential college athletes get the information they need to make the team and understand the recruiting process. Reading council gives young authors a chance to shineBudding authors will display their writing talents during the Blue Water Reading Council's 13th Annual Young Author’s Conference on April 17 at TEC. The event focuses on students grades 1-6 who have written a book using the proper writing process. Registered authors will share their writings and will meet with the children’s book author-illustrator team of Karen and Darin Brege. The Breges will also present Think Boy Writers and Readers! as part of the council's speaker series on April 15 at Rum Runnerz Restaurant in Port Huron. Grants help make college accessible to more studentsTwo grants awarded locally will give St. Clair County students and parents more resources in preparing for college. The RESA received a $50,000 grant from the Michigan College Access Network that will help support student access to and success in college, while Cargill Salt Inc. gave the Community Foundation of St. Clair County three gifts totaling more than $50,000. The Cargill money will support several programs, including the county’s College Access initiative. To read the press release, click here.
Advice and resources available at Parent University Parents and caregivers of children of all ages will find valuable information and resources at the 5th Annual Parent University on March 20 at TEC. The event, from 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m., will feature sessions on several parenting and family topics. Education Technology team earns another Telly AwardRESA received two Telly Awards for excellence in video production for its Education Technology Office produced documentary, Port Huron’s Pioneers of Medicine. Silver and bronze statues were given in the categories of documentary and editing. The Telly Awards honors outstanding local, regional and cable TV programs, as well as video and film productions. This is the second year in a row an Education Technology production has earned a Telly Award.
